| At 10 months old, Keri Len was a foster child suffering with cardiomyopathy, a type of heart disease in which the heart muscle is abnormally enlarged or thickened. She needed a home and foster parents willing to love and take care of her and her vast medical needs. Mary Alice and Lester Spivey, retired grandparents, provided her with just that. The day after Keri Len arrived at their home, she was taken to Texas Children’s Heart Center where doctors confirmed she needed a heart transplant. Two months after her arrival at Texas Children’s, a match was found and Keri Len underwent a heart transplant. The surgery was a resounding success. Keri Len passed the 5-year mark 3 years ago and now only has to return to the Heart Center once a year for a biopsy. She is an energetic and athletic young girl who loves to dance, sing, play sports, and participate in beauty pageants. Singing is her favorite activity. She loves to sing Southern Gospel music. In fact she has just finished her 2nd Gospel CD! There are no restrictions on how she lives her life. When Keri Len was 5 years old adoption was finalized and she is now a permanent member of the Spivey family. Keri Len is grateful to God, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the transplant team for her life. She is also grateful for the family who donated the heart she received. |
